CURRICULUM WORKSHOP FOR MASTER’S STUDY PROGRAM ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

Workshop on Curriculum Revision for the Master’s Study Program (S-2) Environmental Management
in Accordance with Permendikbudristek No. 53 of 2023

Palembang, October 24, 2024 – The Master Study Program (S-2) in Environmental Management, Postgraduate Program of Sriwijaya University, has held a workshop to revise the curriculum by the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Permendikbudristek) Number 53 of 2023. This workshop aims to ensure that the curriculum taught in the Master of Environmental Management Study Program remains relevant to the latest developments in environmental management and meets the higher education standards that the government has set.

The event, which was held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, in Seminar Room II of the Postgraduate Program of Sriwijaya University,  was attended by lecturers and students of the Master of Environmental Management Study Program, Directors and leaders of the Postgraduate Program of Sriwijaya University, alumni, stakeholders and several related parties who contributed to the curriculum revision process.

Workshop Objectives and Outcomes

This workshop began with a presentation by the resource person, Prof. Dr. Indang Dewata, M.Si, C.Eia (Professor of Environmental Science, Padang State University) about Permendikbudristek No. 53 of 2023, which regulates graduate competencies, graduate learning outcomes, and courses which needs to be adjusted to the needs of industry and the development of science and technology. One of the main objectives of this workshop is to ensure that the curriculum applied in the Master of Environmental Management Study Program remains responsive to the increasingly complex challenges and needs of environmental management.

The result of this workshop was the agreement on revising the curriculum that will be adjusted to the new provisions. The revised curriculum will focus on improving the quality of graduate competencies and adding or updating materials relevant to the latest issues in environmental management, especially wetlands, such as climate change, sustainability, and innovative environmental technologies.

Next Steps

As a follow-up step, all workshop participants agreed to immediately prepare a revised curriculum implementation plan and ensure that this process can be completed in time for implementation in the 2025 school year.

Director of the Postgraduate Program of Sriwijaya University, Prof. Dr. H. M. Said, M.Sc in his remarks, appreciated the efforts of the Master of Environmental Management Study Program to continue to adapt to the development of the world of higher education and global challenges in the field of wetland environment. He also reminded the importance of collaboration between all relevant parties to ensure the quality of education that can produce graduates ready to face future challenges.

With the revision of this curriculum, it is hoped that the Master of Environmental Management Study Program at Sriwijaya University can continue to produce superior, competent graduates who can contribute to preserving the environment and providing solutions to various existing environmental problems.
